It is with very great sadness that we have to advise every one of the passing of Guy Elliott (“Bambi” as we affectionately called him) – a victim of a very aggressive form of cancer after a year long battle to fight it. Guy was a true “Old Meadonian” and a dedicated member of our club having played 107 times for the 1st XV, and hundreds more times for the ‘A’ XV, as well as being an enthusiastic and regular tourist, including being an invaluable management member of the infamous “Colts Tour” to Narbonne in 1982. He was a very accomplished stand-off with an educated boot but played his 1st XV rugby in the era of Tony Reynolds who was a “shoe in” at No.10, and therefore Guy adapted his game very successfully to suit playing at centre, with Martin Oliver and Stuart MacLaclan at fullback, and always in the thick of wanting to analyse the game in our 'post-match dissections'. He will always be remembered for his amazing commitment to the club, and always given with a smile and sense of fun; in more recent times we did not see so much of him as he was fully committed to his wonderful wife Lisa and their children (incidentally, he was very proud of his son – a very good rugby player, who is playing county representative rugby for Berkshire) living out in Winkfield Row, near Bracknell. In short, Guy was a top bloke – the world is certainly a poorer place – for all those who knew him, it has been a privilege!! Guy RIP.
